Components

Each college or university adopts the CCW components that best address its needs.

Campus Watch

A program in which students act as guardians of their surrounding communities. Students can learn how communities implement and maintain a watch in a neighborhood or building setting.

Safety escort services and campus patrols

Led by volunteer students to provide safety by “the buddy system” and also acting to ensure campus safety through routine patrol.

Drug and alcohol abuse prevention

Environmental and comprehensive plans designed to educate and help prevent abuse of alcohol, tobacco, and illicit drugs.

Self-defense training

Personal protection classes and certification programs. Rape Aggression Defense, Martial Arts Training, and Ground Fighting Courses help to enhance confidence and safety.

Lifesaving (First Aid/CPR)

A program to prepare students in the basics of being first responders. Help to establish an Emergency Medical Support Team on your campus.

Property protection

Property theft is the most common crime on campus. Help to educate others in taking responsible care for their items and make them aware of their surroundings.

Safe crime reporting

Work to develop systems that allow witnesses to report crime safely, accurately, and even anonymously. Support the efforts of the Clery Act to highlight the crime on and around campus (before it happens or as it is occurring).

Peer mediation and counseling

Establish programs to train peers to help fellow students in their day-to-day problems. Peers are often better able to relate to the needs and problems, and proper training in mediation techniques will add sound principles to this dynamic.

Hate crime prevention

To educate and make aware the diversity and discourage intolerance. Help spread awareness about what a hate crime is and how to report one.

Action projects

Activities planned by CCW members to help deal with a specific need on campus or in the surrounding community, or to raise awareness of an issue or potential problem before it becomes widespread.
